If You Want The Truth, Ask A Child...

You know the saying "If you want the truth, ask a child"? Well, it is true. When I decided to compete for Ms. Captivating, I had to ask myself "WHY?" Why compete after not competing in so many years? What is the compelling factor for me to take the plunge back into an industry I thought I had retired from? Why did I want the crown? This was my answer:

I wanted to win for my precious baby girl. I wanted to show her that you can chase your dreams and you can achieve them with hard work and dedication. I wanted to show her to never let things such as money, people, weight, society discourage you from reaching your goals in life. And lastly, I wanted to show Kenna that, yes, you really can be a princess. And my goal and dream of this came true. Not on the day that  I won and had the crown placed on my head, but 2 days ago when Kenna walked over to my "Pageant Case", asked to take out my CAPTIVATING crown, had me put it on, and said "Mommy. You a pity 'pin-cess'!" I started to cry because I wanted her to see that if Mommy could be a princess, then she could too one day! I then placed the crown on her head and said, "One day, if you want to, you can be a princess too!"
Right after I won MS. CAPTIVATING

Always remember, if you set your mind to it, you can be anything you want to be. Just remember, it might not happen when you want it to or how you want it to, but you can achieve your dreams. I dreamed of being MISS UNIVERSE since I was 14. I never became MISS UNIVERSE or even MISS OHIO (though I came close!), but I did win a national title 13 years later, and I was able to share this amazing experience with my daughter. THAT is way more than I could ever ask for...

Until next time friends...

Official Photo Shoot!

This weekend was such an amazing weekend for my sister queens and I! It was our official photo shoot! We arrived at STUDIO RM Saturday at 9:30 to music, a kitchen full of food, some more awesome gifts, clothing racks up, and a giant mirror and touch-up station all ready for us! We finally wrapped up at 6:00 that night!
More gifts!!! Business cards, an awesome pair of pageant earrings, a crown hobo purse, and a red crown garment bag!

Once there we touched up make up, finished fixing our hair (with the guidance of our director who even got his hands on some hot irons and hairspray :) ) Rick organized our clothes for the shoot and even let us borrow some amazing pieces of jewelry!
We had so much fun! Rick took time and worked with each of us to capture our best look and teach us how to pose to get the best image. It is such an awesome experience to be able to work with one of the top photographers in the country for an entire year, learning how to be poised, getting make-up and hair tips, and have a mentor throughout this next year! It is amazing how he can capture a woman's true beauty and give her confidence bigger than the moon by showing her just how beautiful she is through his lens!

I was dumbfounded that he was able to take the most beautiful pictures with 3 girls in the same shot! I thought it would take a miracle to shoot 3 girls and have ALL of them happy with a picture... he worked miracles because he did just that! We were also a little hesitant to let him take strait on profile shots but after looking at a few pics... WOW! I can't wait to show all of you the amazing shots!

Here are a few candids from this weekend:
Rick goofing off with Alison!

Me, waiting to do crown shots!

All three of us at the end of the day! What an amazing weekend!
After 7 hours at STUDIO RM, Rick and I decided to get dinner and wrap up the night making a quick appearance at none other than the Delaware County Fair! HAHAHA! To see the people's faces when a 6 foot tall blonde in stiletto boots, sequin top, and full make-up, lashes and all walked into the fair... PRICELESS!!! We had so much fun, laughed so hard, ate "carny" food, and ended our night with a candy apple!

I'm very excited to for some of my upcoming posts so stay tuned to see what YOU could experience as the next CAPTIVATING queen! Until next time...
